RISOTADA JEWELRY CARE GUIDE
At RISOTADA, we believe that fine jewelry is more than an accessory—it’s a personal treasure meant to be worn and cherished for a lifetime. Each piece, from our solid gold and sterling silver creations to our vibrant natural gemstones and organic pearls, is crafted with intention and care.
To ensure your RISOTADA jewelry retains its beauty and luster for generations, we invite you to follow these simple care guidelines.
The Golden Rules: For All Jewelry Types
Last On, First Off
Always put your jewelry on after applying makeup, perfume, hairspray, and lotions. Remove it before showering, swimming, or cleaning.
Avoid Harsh Chemicals
Contact with chlorine (pools, spas), bleach, ammonia, and other harsh cleaners can permanently damage metals and gemstones.
Store with Care & Gentle Cleaning
Keep your jewelry in a clean, dry place. We recommend the soft pouches or boxes your pieces arrived in, or a dedicated jewelry box with separate compartments to prevent scratches. Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently wipe your jewelry after wear to remove oils and dust.
Caring for Your Metal: Gold & Sterling Silver
What it is
e.g., 14 Gold & Gold Vermeil
- 14 gold is a durable alloy, and our vermeil is a thick layer of 14k gold over high-quality sterling silver.
Sterling Silver - A beautiful, bright metal that can naturally tarnish over time when exposed to air and sulfur.
Care
Clean with a mild soap (like dish soap) and warm water solution. Use a very soft brush (e.g., a baby toothbrush) to gently clean intricate details. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a soft cloth. Avoid excessive rubbing on vermeil to preserve the gold layer.
Care
To remove light tarnish, use a dedicated silver polishing cloth. For a deeper clean, use a silver dip solution, but ensure it is safe for any gemstones in the piece . Always rinse and dry thoroughly afterward.
Protecting Your Natural Gemstones
General Care
Clean most gemstones with warm water, a drop of mild soap, and a soft brush. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
Avoid Ultrasonic Cleaners & Steam Cleaners
We do not recommend ultrasonic cleaners for most colored gemstones, as the vibrations can cause fractures, especially in inclusions-rich stones. Sudden temperature changes can damage or fracture many gemstones.
Storage
Store gemstone jewelry separately to prevent harder stones from scratching softer ones.
The Delicate Beauty of Organic Gemstones:
Pearls & More
The "Wear Them Often" Rule
Pearls thrive on the natural oils from your skin, which help maintain their luster. After wearing, gently wipe them with a soft, damp cloth. Let them air dry completely before storing. Never submerge pearls in water, as it can weaken the silk thread and affect their nacre.
Strictly Avoid Chemicals
Perfume, hairspray, and cosmetics can permanently damage a pearl's surface and cause dullness.
Storage
Store pearls separately in a soft pouch. Do not let them come into contact with other jewelry that could scratch them.
Activity-Specific Guidance & Final Notes
During Exercise & Sports
Remove your jewelry to avoid damage from impact, sweat, and chemicals.
While Sleeping & Bathing
Remove jewelry to prevent tangling, snagging, or exposure to soaps and shampoos.
In the Kitchen & Garden
Protect your pieces from abrasive surfaces, harsh cleaning agents, and dirt.
Regular Check-ups
We recommend having your jewelry professionally checked once a year, especially for pieces with prong settings, to ensure stones are secure.
